Six hidden gem communities in Bangkok
Nestled in the center of Bangkok, Nang Loeng’s century-old market is a heaven for local Thai food and hard-tofind sweets from old recipes including Saikrok Planam (Wrapped betel leaves with ancient pork sausage), Kanom tuay (Coconut Milk Custard), Khanom Mo Kaeng Thua (Thai Custard with Beans), etc. Home to legendary Thai actor Mitr Chaibancha who appeared in more than hundreds of Thai films during 50s-70s which was screening in Thailand’s first wooden movie theater ‘Sala Chaloem Thani’ and the last stand of Thai performances in Lakhon Alley (Traditional dancing arts community) like a highly developed Thai southern-style dance-drama Lakhon Chatri, and Thai embroidery dedicated to the costumes and masks used in Khon performances at Narasilpa House. Thai teens in the old days also hung out at Ballroom Dance House (Ban Ten Ram) where they socialized to others.
True disappearing faces of Nang Loeng as the hub of disappearing performances and vibrant food market are fading through times and still waiting for your help; the Chatri Dance, the Thai desserts and rare Thai food at the market. These are hidden in their past, but from with your help, together we can bring them back into the limelight again and save them from disappearing by visiting and sharing about them
Strengthening communities through income generating activities from sustainable development tourism is the project of UNDP Thailand in collaboration with Bangkok Tourism Division and HiveSters which aims to bring back the life of 6 disappearing communities throughout Bangkok area and create innovative solution to solve social issues in the communities!
