Community Exchange Ecosystem
The E-Loeng group, which has continued to engage in activities with the Nang Loeng community, anticipated the chance to improve the standard of living for residents of the neighborhood, particularly in the slum areas behind Wat Sunthon Thammathan (Kae Nang Loeng), where children lack access to education and adults lack employment opportunities due to limited education and social standing. Our project is to assist those who are unemployed or suffering from COVID-19, which results in a low quality of life, while also protecting the environment.
After 15 years of collaborating with the Nang Loeng community, we have discovered that in order to make a community-based project "sustainable," both the global community and the local community must benefit. The volunteering project won't endure long because individuals nowadays are trying to live a life that gets harder and harder every single day. The main concept behind our "Upcycling for Community" project is based on these facts.
We foresee the opportunity to protect the environment by using upcycling methods while simultaneously creating better incomes and life quality for people in the community, especially elderly people and people living in the slum area behind Sunthorn Thammathan Temple (Wat Kae Nang Loeng) who lack job opportunities (due to educational constraints and social status) resulting in poor quality of life and low income which are roots of many social problems.
There is also a need to increase recycling and approach waste as a resource. Nang Loeng community has one of the oldest and biggest markets in the Phranakorn area, and about 90 percent of the generated waste is mixed. This leads to waste incineration instead of recycling, both at the household and community levels.
With the help of our alliances, we promote the separation of household garbage into food and plastic waste because we use a lot of plastic bottles and bags. This is where we discovered the chance to offer a consistent supply of vegetables to foster community food security, keep plastic trash out of landfills, and make money for locals by upcycling waste into useful items.
